Radiator hose repair

The radiator hose in a vehicle's engine carries the coolant to and from the radiator. Due to extreme temperature fluctuations and additional mechanical stresses, the coolant hose is constantly subjected to considerable strain. As a result, the hose eventually becomes porous and starts to leak. Or maybe it has been damaged by an animal gnawing on the hose. You start to lose coolant while driving. Now you need to do a quick radiator hose repair by sealing the damaged area. Our products for quick radiator hose fixing are a great help here. Sophisticated, tried-and-tested sealing tapes and coolant hose repair kits are popular and, above all, effective.

What are the symptoms of a defective coolant hose?

The vehicle is losing coolant through a broken radiator hose. You can therefore tell that there is a problem because it will be dripping. This means that less and less coolant is available for engine cooling. This causes the remaining coolant to become increasingly hot. The driver is alerted to this by a rise in the temperature shown on the coolant temperature gauge, or by a corresponding warning message in the driver's cab. When this happens, the engine is at risk of overheating, so it is essential to stop the vehicle and switch off the engine. Failure to do so can lead to expensive engine damage. If there is a very small hole in the hose causing only a minimal loss of coolant, you can initially make do by topping up the coolant regularly, to at least enable you to continue driving for a while. A long-term fix can be achieved by replacing the radiator hose with a new one. However, the delivery and installation of the correct spare part can take some time. And replacement or installation of the hose can only be carried out in a workshop. This means there's no chance of continuing your journey any time soon.

When and how can a radiator hose be repaired, and when does it need to be replaced?

To enable the vehicle to continue its journey in the event of a leaking coolant hose, the damaged section of the hose must be sealed on site. This is where our kits for emergency radiator hose fixing come into their own. First and foremost – when it comes to very quick repairs – sealing tape is used. We offer two tried and tested adhesive tapes for this purpose:

                          • Our Res-Q-Tape insulating tape is made of heat-resistant, cold-resistant, and acid-resistant silicone. This sealing tape adheres to itself and is self-fusing. The pressure resistance is 8 bar. It can be used to seal even wet coolant hoses in a matter of seconds. Our Res-Q tape can be stretched up to 300%. The insulating tape is wrapped tightly around the porous or cracked hose. Several layers are applied. The layers fuse together instantly. This makes fixing a radiator hose with Res-Q-Tape a breeze. In principle, you can use this sealing tape to perform a cost-effect and long-lasting repair on any leaking hose, regardless of whether it is made of plastic or metal.

                          • Our radiator hose sealing tape is made from a special synthetic compound that is temperature resistant and self-fusing. It has been specifically designed for coolant hose repair. This sealing tape is also wrapped several times tightly around the damaged area. Then your radiator hose is fixed!

In addition to these very practical sealing tapes, we also carry a comprehensive repair kit for long-lasting repair of defective coolant hoses. It includes all the necessary tools for a successful repair:

                          • Our car radiator hose repair kit includes everything needed to get cars or light trucks with a defective radiator hose back on the road. The kit has temperature-resistant connectors in various shapes and diameters, to ensure a quick seal. The connecting pieces are inserted into the defective hose and secured in place with clamps. This provides a long-lasting seal to fix the leak. The kit also includes repair hoses.

If the damage was caused by abrasion or other mechanical damage, this kind of coolant hose repair is recommended. However, if it turns out that the hose is porous or worn throughout, it is likely that it will gradually start to fail in several places. In this case, it should be replaced in a workshop.
