Trailer tester

Every trailer used in the automotive sector must be fitted with lighting that complies with and is in working order in accordance with the country’s own road traffic regulations. Testing the lights on a trailer is complicated if you do not have a trailer light tester. With our trailer testers, you can carry out tests on the lighting alone and without a towing vehicle. And you can also check that the trailer socket on your towing vehicle is working properly. We stock trailer light testers for 7-pin and 13-pin sockets, as well as a 15-pin version in 12V and 24V.

Trailer testers – functionality and use

Carrying out a test without a trailer tester is a complicated task. It always requires two people. What's more, in addition to the trailer in question, you also need a towing vehicle such as a car or a truck. One person must sit in the cab, while the other keeps an eye on the trailer tail lights.

A fault with the trailer's lighting can have several causes. As well as defective light bulbs, the problem may be caused by a faulty

cable. Another possible cause of a fault could be the trailer socket. It may not be working properly or may have a contact problem. You can identify all these problems using our trailer light testers and then rectify them.

We stock trailer test equipment for the trailer socket on the towing vehicle, and trailer testers for the plug fitted directly on the trailer. With these devices, you can quickly and easily check the lighting on the trailer or the socket on the towing vehicle by yourself. To check the socket on the vehicle, it is best to use our trailer light tester with a cable. Insert the plug of the trailer tester into the socket on the towing vehicle. Then take the trailer wiring tester with the display into the cab. There, you can activate the different lighting functions. The LEDs on our trailer light testers immediately indicate whether the signals are being transmitted correctly to the lights. This way, you can quickly check the socket.

Next, the trailer lights should also be tested. For this, we offer trailer testers with plugs that have various different pin configurations. With our trailer tester, you won’t need another vehicle either. All that’s needed is you, the trailer and our tester. Our 12V trailer light tester operates wirelessly thanks to its built-in battery. Simply plug the trailer wiring tester into the socket of the trailer. The functionality of each light is then tested with a rotary switch on the trailer wiring tester. It couldn't be quicker or easier! We also have a suitable tool for 24V trailers. This trailer tester is suitable for 7-pin plugs, as well as for 13-pin and 15-pin plugs. With our tool, you can test any 24V truck trailer lighting – even if you only have the trailer!

Please note that the use of adapters for plugs or sockets may cause the trailer wiring tester to malfunction. The best method is to use a trailer tester without an adapter.

What should you look out for when buying a trailer light tester?

To find the right trailer tester for your needs, you should first ask yourself the following questions:

              • What types of sockets or plugs are there?
              • What is the voltage: 12V, 24V or both?
              • Do you need to check only the plugs on the trailer, or also the socket on the towing vehicle?

Buy trailer test equipment from the ProLux online shop

We offer a wide selection of trailer tail lights for truck and car trailers. These include state-of-the-art LED tail lights and particularly good-value tail lights fitted with filament bulbs. As well as LED tail lights for lorry trailers, our range of truck lighting also includes number plate lights, truck tail lights, side marker lights, truck clearance lights, and proximity lighting. LEDs have now become the more common light source in these areas too.
