What is a torque multiplier and what is a torque screwdriver?
A torque multiplier is a technical tool used to loosen stuck nuts or bolts. They increase the operator's manual strength many times over. This allows stuck nuts or bolts to be loosened manually without special machine assistance.
Strictly speaking, a torque screwdriver is not a torque multiplier, since its main function is to tighten nuts, such as truck wheel nuts or other hexagonal bolts, to a flexibly adjustable torque, rather than to loosen them. This means the torque screwdriver works like a torque wrench.
In addition to our manual torque multipliers, we also offer an electric battery-operated torque screwdriver. Our cordless torque screwdriver can be used as an electric torque screwdriver to loosen stuck screws or nuts, but it can also be used as a torque wrench or torque screwdriver to tighten screws or nuts to an adjustable maximum torque in Nm. Additionally, hydraulic torque screwdrivers are also available on the market.
Our manual torque multiplier set includes sizes suitable for truck and car wheel nuts. Additional nut and screw sizes are also available on the market for industrial needs.
How does a torque multiplier work?
A torque multiplier is used on wheel nuts (or other nuts of similar size) for loosening wheel nuts in the same way as the familiar wheel nut spanner. The socket of the torque multiplier is placed on the wheel nut. A high-ratio gear mechanism multiplies the force generated by manually turning the crank. This means that only a small portion of the rotation of the socket crank is actually executed as a rotation on the wheel nut. This significantly increases the torque. By increasing the crank speed, stuck or rusted nuts or hexagon bolts can be easily removed without excessive muscle power.
Different types of torque multipliers for trucks
We offer two different types of high-torque torque multipliers for trucks. Simple mechanical torque multipliers are operated solely using muscle power. A motor-driven torque multiplier makes the work a lot easier. With our battery-powered torque multiplier, you can not only loosen screw fastenings effortlessly, but also tighten them to a specific torque. This is ideal, for example, when changing a wheel, since every truck or car manufacturer specifies a particular tightening torque defined in Nm for wheel changes.
Manual torque multiplier with crank
An unpowered torque multiplier has one major advantage: it is always ready for use. Thanks to its simple yet powerful mechanism, a manual torque multiplier quickly loosens stuck screws. In addition, manual torque multipliers are significantly lighter and considerably cheaper than electric torque screwdrivers. In addition to the basic kit provided with our manual torque multiplier, we also offer a larger torque multiplier kit. This has additional socket sizes and adapters, as well as very helpful assembly accessories.
Battery-powered torque screwdriver
The electric version of a torque multiplier is of course significantly more convenient and versatile than the manual version. Equipped with a high-performance lithium-ion battery pack, it is a powerful torque multiplier tool. A second battery pack is included with delivery to ensure reliable operation. In addition to easily loosening stuck wheel bolts or wheel nuts, our 1" battery-powered torque multiplier can also tighten nuts and bolts to a specified torque. Using the high-speed setting, our electric torque screwdriver allows you to quickly unscrew loosened screw connections completely.
