Applications of winch cables

Our winch cables are used for many purposes. Whenever there is something to pull or lift. In the field of forestry operations, these cables - also called forestry ropes - are used to pull wood in the forest. Due to the demanding conditions of use, highly mechanically resilient ropes must be used here.
During recovery operations, the winch cables are used to pull all kinds of vehicles involved in accidents. The German Federal Agency for Technical Relief as well as the fire brigade work with heavy cable winches in case of an emergency or disaster. In the field of towing, the winch wire ropes are used to pull unroadworthy vehicles such as cars onto a means of transport.
With cranes and in lifting technology, electric winches lift existing material of any size and weight.
When used in the off-road sector, stuck vehicles are pulled free by means of a rope and winch or cable hoist. Winch cable and winch are a universal duo. We offer a large selection in both areas.

Technology of winch cables

Steel winch cables for cable winches are available in various designs. In this context, EN 12385-4 specifies the basic principles of design and quality. As already described, a winch cable is a composite of numerous, mostly galvanised individual wires. Different thicknesses of the individual wires, as well as their arrangement in the cable enables the development of winch cables with different properties.
For cable winches with small cable drums, flexible winch ropes made of thinner wires are required, as the winding radius is very small. Wear can be reduced by using thicker wires on the outside of the rope. For high performance wire rope winches in the lifting range with large diameter of the rope drum and guided winding, high quality heavy-duty steel winch ropes are used.
These ropes are qualitatively designed for a very long service life - even with large loads and lengths. The tractive force of the winch is just as decisive. The pulling rope must be adapted to the tensile force or breaking load. High tensile forces require larger rope diameters with correspondingly higher breaking loads.
