        Hella lightbars for commercial vehicles

The technical features and design of Hella roof bars and Hella lightbars makes them suitable for commercial trucks and passenger vehicles. Professional OWS technology means they can be used on works and emergency vehicles of all kinds: from municipal vehicles, tow trucks and construction vehicles to fire brigade and police emergency vehicles. Hella OWS ECE-approved beacons with LEDs or halogen bulbs guarantee maximum safety on every journey and every job.

        Hella lightbars in different designs

We can supply different models of Hella OWS lightbars. The OWS range is available as LED lightbars of the type OWS-E-LED. Hella OWS 7, OWS-QS or OWS 540, OWS 1000 to 1600, on the other hand, have a conventional rotor design. Hella LED lightbars feature state-of-the-art LED modules combined with durability and low power consumption. Hella LED lightbars have a wear-free design that enables them to work for long hours. Hella bars with rotor technology have been on the market for many years and are based on tried-and-tested standard technology. In Hella bars, light is focused via the rotating reflector, so the warning light is also clearly visible during the day. However, the disadvantages of this conventional technology are mechanical wear and tear and the short service life of the bulbs, as well as high power consumption. The service life of the modern LEDs used in Hella LED lightbars is approx. 30 times longer, so there is normally no need to replace them. In continuous operation, they only require a fraction of the energy used by conventional warning lights.

LED colour and light cover colour

The colour of the lights used in Hella bars, Hella beacons or Hella LED lightbars is regulated by § 52 of the StVZO (German road traffic regulations). Amber lights may be used by tow trucks and roadside assistance vehicles, municipal and construction vehicles and heavy goods vehicles, etc. Blue lights are for special emergency vehicles only, i.e., police, fire brigade, ambulance and rescue vehicles. In conventional rotor technology, the colour of the light cover determines what colour of light is emitted. In LED technology by contrast, the colour of the LED itself determines the colour of the light emitted, so the light covers can be colourless or just slightly tinted. This improves light transmission so the light is more easily visible.

Possible operating voltages of Hella OWS lightbars

Hella beacons are available in 12V or 24V. If you are buying and using lightbars with rotor technology, you must buy either 12V or 24V. By contrast, Hella LED lightbars can be operated with both voltages. The integrated LED modules use their electronics to independently regulate the required voltage.

Dimensions and installation of Hella lightbars

We can supply OWS optical warning systems in lengths from 540 mm to 1600 mm. You should choose the length according to the size of the vehicle. The lightbar should not be wider than the vehicle on which it is mounted. In terms of visual effect, a lightbar looks best if it doesn’t reach all the way to the outside edge of the vehicle’s roof. Hella lightbars can be mounted either on a matching roof rack or directly onto the roof of the vehicle. Mounting directly onto the roof of the vehicle will require holes to be drilled in it, but the result looks more attractive compared to a roof rack. Furthermore, direct mounting creates less air noise when driving.
