Slippery jims

Slippery jims from ProLux are used to manoeuvre vehicles with immobile or missing wheels without the aid of a wheel dolly or wheel skate or to load them for transport. Easy, durable and quick, they can also be used for shunting on difficult surfaces such as grass grids or cobblestones. Our slip wedge sets are available in different colours.

Recovering and loading vehicles with slippery jims

Slippery jims are the best way to manoeuvre and then load undrivable vehicles (e.g. vehicles with the handbrake stuck on, missing wheels, automatic transmission in park position, damaged axle due to an accident, etc.). You don’t need any additional equipment such as a jack, wheel dolly, GoJak or lifting gear for recovery. The recovery skates are made of robust material to guarantee a long lifespan.
Their flexibility means they can be used lengthways or crosswise to the tyre. Vehicles can therefore be positioned so that it is then easy to load them with a winch
It is even possible to join two recovery skates together to cope with wheels that are sitting at an angle (item no. 625 007 / 625 017). The slip wedges have toothed connections on both sides for joining them together. This doubles their usable surface area.
Slippery jims can even be used on vehicles with missing wheels. This is done by positioning the vehicle’s brake discs in the special grooves on the recovery skate to create an extra option for moving the vehicle.

      Skates for towing in practice

Tow truck operators must be able to shift stricken vehicles quickly, because time means money and, most importantly, safety. The less time the recovery service spends blocking a lane of moving traffic, the sooner they can leave the danger zone. The operator places the skates for towing under the non-turning wheels. When loading with the winch begins, the wheels slide on the recovery skates and the vehicle moves. To avoid a baffle created by a high platform edge on the towing vehicle, two reversed slippery jims can be positioned on the platform edge to act as "loading ramps“.

Along with black, slippery jims are also available in yellow and red. These two bright colours enhance the visibility of the recovery skates during use and mean that operators are less likely to accidentally leave them at the site.
