Hoist winches
A hoist winch is a reliable and precise lifting device used for raising and lowering loads in workshops, industry, assembly, recovery operations and the trades. Our electric hoists winches enable the controlled vertical movement of heavy loads over short to medium lifting heights. Only lifting winches approved for this purpose may be used for vertical lifting operations. Our hoist winches are equipped with the braking device required by law for approval. This safety device ensures that the load is held securely in position should the lifting operation be interrupted.
The difference between a pulling winch and a hoisting winch
The difference between a pulling winch and a winch for lifting lies primarily in their intended use and design:
Hoist winches are specifically designed for the vertical lifting and lowering of loads. For safety reasons, they must not have a drum freewheel, but are equipped with suitable brakes and safety mechanisms to hold loads securely in position. The braking mechanism must be robust enough to withstand any sudden movements of the load (e.g. due to a jerky pendulum motion). Under certain conditions, lifting winches can also pull horizontally.
Towing winches, on the other hand, are suitable for the horizontal pulling of loads and are only approved for this purpose. They almost always have a drum freewheel (for rapid retraction of the tow rope). A braking device is also fitted, which holds the load in place if the pulling process is interrupted.
Different types of hoist winches
Hoist winches are available in various designs, which differ primarily in their drive type and thus in their ease of use. In addition to electric hoist winches, hydraulic (i.e. oil-pressure-driven) and manual models are also available. Whilst manual variants tend to be used for infrequent or simple lifting tasks, electric hoist winches offer an effort-saving and therefore convenient solution for professional applications.
Electric Hoist Winch
The hoist winch electric is the most commonly used type and is ideal for applications where loads must be moved regularly, safely, and in a controlled manner. As a reliable lifting winch, it is motor-driven and ensures smooth lifting as well as secure load holding.
Depending on the application, this winch for lifting is available in different voltage versions, including hoist winch electric 12V and hoist winch electric 24V, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial, workshop, and recovery operations.
What Is a Hoist Winch or Wire Rope Hoist Used For?
A wire rope hoist or hoist winch is used wherever loads need to be lifted and moved in a controlled and safe manner. Typical application areas include:
• Recovery and towing: e.g. on recovery cranes and helicopters
• Construction: e.g. on construction cranes or heavy-duty cranes; for loading and unloading machinery onto trailers or loading platforms; in scaffolding, etc.
• Workshop: e.g. for moving heavy spare parts for installation; for lifting and lowering loads on service, assembly, or workshop vehicles
• Heavy industry: e.g. in production environments
• Bodybuilders: e.g. for handling and positioning vehicle components
The units we offer are primarily electric hoist winches in 12V and 24V versions. As a result, they are mainly used for mobile applications, whereas stationary indoor operations typically rely on mains power (230/400V). As a versatile lifting winch and reliable winch for lifting, they are ideal for professional mobile use in demanding environments.
Tips for Choosing the Right Hoist Winch
When selecting the right hoist winch, several key factors should be considered:
• Frequency of use and environment: Where will the winch be installed and how often will it be used?
• Load capacity: The lifting capacity of the lifting winch must always exceed the actual load weight.
• Lifting height and rope length: These must match the specific application requirements.
• Operating voltage: The hoist winch electric must be compatible with the available power source.
Safety Instructions for Using Hoist Winches
When using a winch for lifting, safety and controlled operation are essential. To ensure safe use, the following guidelines must be observed:
• Hoist winches are not approved for lifting or transporting persons. Raising or lowering people is strictly prohibited.
• Never exceed the maximum permitted load capacity of the hoist winch. Always allow for an appropriate safety margin.
• Loads must be lifted and lowered vertically and smoothly to avoid lateral forces on the rope, drum, and bearings.
• Use only in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications, particularly regarding duty cycle, lifting height, and direction of operation.
• Perform a visual and functional inspection before each use, especially of the rope, hook, brake, and electrical components.
• During operation, ensure that no persons are present in the danger zone beneath the load.
• Maintenance and repair work may only be carried out when the system is not under load and must follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
When using 12V and 24V hoist winches, the specific conditions of vehicle-mounted and mobile operation must also be taken into account:
• Proper implementation of the power supply via the vehicle’s electrical system. A sufficient cable cross-section and appropriate fuse protection close to the battery are essential.
• Check the condition of the battery (vehicle or auxiliary battery) before operation, as voltage drops can negatively affect the lifting performance and control of the hoist winch electric.
• Avoid overload and continuous operation to prevent damage and ensure long-term reliability of the electric hoist winch.
• When mounting on vehicles or trailers, ensure adequate stability and support to prevent tipping or torsional movement during operation of the winch for lifting.
