Individual functions and applications of various vehicle lockout tools

There are two different ways to achieve professional opening of a vehicle door. A common approach is lock picking, used when dealing with vehicle door locks. The second option opens the vehicle door via the door mechanism.

Lock picking tools refer to opening the lock cylinder on vehicles using a vehicle lockout tool. The tool is also often called a decoder or lock pick. This special tool is used to position the individual pins or discs in the lock. The original vehicle key also performs this positioning. If the same position is achieved using the access tool, the door can be opened just as it would be with the correct key. The customer can now use their car key again, which has usually been left inside the vehicle. The ignition lock itself cannot be operated with vehicle lockout tools. Car manufacturers such as VW, Audi & Porsche, or BMW, Ford, Mercedes etc. use different opening technologies on their locks. Vehicle lockout tools always have to be chosen specifically for the type of lock on the vehicle. That's why these automotive lockout tools are often available as a multi-piece kit. This means a car opening tool works for many different makes and models. Car opening tools must be manufactured precisely and to a high standard to ensure professional work. For this reason, the price for these kits is higher.

Car opening tools also work by interfering with the door's opening mechanism. In this case, a vehicle lockout tool is inserted into the interior through the gap between the car door and the roof. This allows the inner handle, opening pin, or switch of the door opener to be operated. Using a suction cup and lever on the vehicle door window, the door gap can often be widened enough to allow the access tool to be inserted. Another possibility is to access the interior of the door through the gap between the door window and the outer panel. This allows the opening mechanism to be directly manipulated. Tool sets for this opening technique have the advantage of being relatively inexpensive. The disadvantage of this technique is that, in newer generations of vehicles, access to the mechanical components has been prevented by the manufacturer.
